Every month, West Coast NCSY we will be highlighting one of the many
wonderful Mitzvot (commandments) of the Torah that NCSYers
throughout the Region will be highlighting in their own lives.
JANUARY '06
SAYING GOOD SHABBOS
The Sabbath is the "Day of Rest" of Hashem, so to speak, the Day on which He completed the Creation of the Universe and all that is in it (Bereishit 2:1 - 3). He conferred Holiness and Majesty upon this Day, and commanded that the Jewish People observe it as a Day of Rest. He commanded in the two versions of the Ten Commandments that "melachah", defined simply, but inaccurately, as work, not be done on that Day and further, that the Day be experienced as a Day of "Oneg," or Delight. Saying "Good Shabbos" to others will assist in adding to this "delight" for others. Observance of this Day has protected the Jewish People from assimilation throughout the ages.
YOUR MITZVAH MISSION
Your mission, if you choose to accept it, is to pass on the joy of Shabbos to others. You will accomplish this by making a concerted effort to wish as many people as you can a "Good Shabbos." By doing this simple act you will enhance the Shabbos of others as well as your own. Good luck. This message will self destruct in 5 seconds.
